Summer 2024
Happy Spring! Some may have noticed that I’ve dropped off social media recently…I wrestle with the decision a little bit, but ultimately I find that social media is mostly a distraction in my life from things that I would be better served paying attention too. So here are a few photos and updates from my life. Please send me an email or a text and let me know what you’ve been up to!
IFMGA Certification
I am super proud to be able to say that I passed the AMGA Ski Guide Exam this spring and am now an IFMGA Licensed Mountain Guide! The exam took place over 8 days in Valdez, Alaska this April. The skiing was excellent and the team of co-candidates and examiners was top notch. Big thanks to everyone who has helped me along this path.

New Job as a cat and Heli-ski guide
The big change for me this winter was starting a job at a private cat and heli ski operation called Monument. Located in the northern Utah adjacent to Powder Mountain, Monument has a 40,000 acre tenure comprised of wide open powder fields and perfectly spaced trees. Needless to say I am very excited to return again in December for another season.
Back in Washington
Following the season at Monument, my Fiancé and I quickly loaded up our cars and moved to Leavenworth, WA where we’ll be based for the foreseeable future. I previously lived in Leavenworth, and am excited to reconnect with old friends and spend time in the amazing mountains in the area.
Openings in May
Now is a great time to ski a volcano in the Cascades, get in touch asap to make it happen! Also a great time to brush up on crevasse rescue or rock rescue.
Summer availability
I have availability for July, August, and September in the Cascades. What are your goals? I can help facilitate the experience, or help get you the experience you need to make your dreams happen.
There’s no shortcut to gaining experience in the mountains, but hiring a guide might be the closest thing to it. I’ve spent over a decade developing honing my technical skills, terrain assessment, and decision making and have been examined by some of the best guides in the business.
Alps…
I’m currently working on the necessary paperwork to be able to offer trips in the Alps beginning next spring. Stay tuned!
I want to hear from you!
How did you first hear about mountain guiding, and what made you decide to go with the guide service or guide that you did?
Why me? What would make you choose to climb with me over another guide?
Thanks for reading!
All the best,
Kyle Hornor
